Welcome to Books and Cookies!
My hope for Books and Cookies was, and is, to create a positive and fun-filled learning environment that is not only kid-friendly, but adult-friendly; to be a welcoming space for families by offering affordable activities and snacks, and to be an active and positive part of the community while promoting the joy of literacy.
...And I think we did just that!
Our spacious, sun-filled book room stocks both classics and contemporary must-reads for babies to tweens. The space is completely kid friendly with cozy nooks, a hammock, a tee pee and plenty of places to curl up and get lost in the pages of a book. We allow the families to pull the books down off the shelves to read (even though on occasion books get overly loved by little oneʼs hands and mouths) because it is so important to fall in love before you chose which titles to take home. This is what is truly special about our book room. Throughout the day families come and spend time reading with their children, laughing, educating, and building lasting bonds through literature.
Our kidʼs café offers freshly baked cookies, but we also have a full menu of healthy snacks, baked goods and drinks for kids and adults. Weʼve taken special care to offer wholesome, homemade, organic, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options, so that there is something tasty for everyone.
In the mornings, our activity room is filled to the brim with parents and smiling little ones joining in on our enrichment activities. From daily story times to Crafty Kids Messy Art Exploration, Music classes to Wiggle Worm Fitness our activities foster learning, fun and family interaction.
On the weekends, we host childrenʼs birthday parties. Crafts, story time & sign-along and cookie decorating all based on your childʼs favorite books! Who wouldnʼt want to bring in a new year with Dr. Seuss or Fancy Nancy or Pete The Cat!
It has always been important to me to give back. Therefore, Books and Cookies has pledged to be a positive force in the community by holding ongoing book drives for Childrenʼs Institute, School on Wheels and OneVoice Santa Monica. We also house a diaper collection for Help a Mother Out and LA Diaper Drive. We enjoy sharing our love of storytelling and cookie decorating with underprivileged youth at Childrenʼs Institute, local hospitals and Mar Vista Family Center. We have also donated our space for fundraisers for such worthy charities such as Ready, Set, Learn! and Access Books.
...And this is just the beginning for Books and Cookies!
My staff and I learn so much every day from our local families and our littlest patrons about what true joy of reading is. I am so proud of the community we have created here at Books and Cookies and I look forward to continuing to grow and be a long lasting fixture in our community.
