Spooky-ish Halloween Rice Krispie Treats

Trick or treat! It’s that time of year already; Halloween is just around the corner and the goblins, ghouls, and sugary treats are everywhere. Homemade Halloween goodies are great ways to spend some quality time with the family, as well as to keep from breaking into the candy before trick-or-treaters even arrive! Here are three ways to turn the classic Rice Krispie treat into a fun Halloween snack.

Note: These treats are easiest to work with if they are homemade, so follow the recipe on the box of Rice Krispies!

1. The Ghost

You’ll need:

  • Rice Krispie treats (ideally formed into “ghost” shape, but works well in any shape)

  • White chocolate chips

  • Black frosting

  • Lollypop sticks

Instructions:

Insert lollypop sticks into prepared Rice Krispie treats. Melt white chocolate chips in heavy saucepan. Once chocolate is melted, dip treats into white chocolate and place on wax paper. Let chocolate cool. Use black frosting to draw ghostly faces on the treats!

2. The Pumpkin

You’ll need:

  • Rice Krispie treats (use orange food coloring while melting the marshmallows to get pumpkin color, and form into balls for pumpkin shape.)

  • Tootsie rolls

  • Green frosting

Instructions:

Cut tootsie rolls in half. Insert one half into top of each pumpkin to make a stem. Use green frosting to make leaves on both sides and you’re done!

3. The Frankenstein

You’ll need:

  • Rice Krispie treats (use green food coloring while melting marshmallows and form treats into rectangles)

  • Semisweet chocolate chips

  • Black frosting

  • Lollypop sticks

*Optional

- Candy eyes

Instructions:

Insert lollypop stick into one end of each rectangle. Melt chocolate chips in heavy saucepan. While holding stick, dip the end of each treat into melted chocolate for Frankenstein’s hair. Let cool on wax paper. Use black frosting and some candy eyes to make the monster’s silly face!
